Prayer Calendar - May 2025

Praise items and prayer requests coming from within our diocese, the ACNA and the Anglican Communion for each day of this month.

 
  1. 1.     Pray for Bishop Dan Gifford (& Cathryn), our diocesan bishop. May God grant him all the health, strength, discernment, vision and the passion he needs for this important responsibility. And may the Lord grant him Gospel zeal as he cares for the clergy and parishes across our diocese.

  2. 2.     Our diocese and province: Pray for all our congregations and leaders across the Anglican Diocese of Canada and our province of the Anglican Church in North America. Pray for His mercy, grace and blessing, that He would keep us always faithful and true to His calling and glorious Gospel.

  3. 3.     Pray for our suffragan bishops, Bishop Stephen Leung (& Nona) and for Bishop Mike Stewart (& Marianne), as they shepherd the congregations in their charge in AMMiC and Western Canada.
    And pray for retired Bishops: Ron Ferris (& Jan), Grant LeMarquand (& Wendy), Charlie Masters (& Judy), Don Harvey (& Trudy), Trevor Walters (& Dede), and Malcolm Harding (& Marylou), for their years of service and ministries they continue to support across our diocese and beyond.

  4. 4.     Pray for our primate, Archbishop Steve Wood (& Jacqueline) as he gives godly leadership to the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), in which we are one of twenty-eight dioceses. May God in His grace grant him great wisdom, strength, protection and faithfulness in this role.

  5. 5.     Pray for our Western Clergy and Spouses Retreat beginning today (May 5-8) in Sumas, Washington. May it be a rich time of refreshment in the Lord, encouragement, vision and fellowship for these leaders. Pray for main speaker, Archbishop Emmanuel Egbunu from Nigeria, as he shares and teaches from God’s word.

  6. 6.     Our Diocesan 5 Ministry Priorities – Pray that God will use these five strategic priorities to transform us and our parishes. Pray for the leadership teams around each priority:  Bold Witnesses; Biblically Grounded; Discipling Children & Youth; On Mission, and Planting & Growing Churches.

  7. 7.     Pray for lay leaders in our parishes; for wardens and lay readers, for ministry coordinators, catechists and all those who provide leadership in their congregations. Pray that they would lead faithfully and wisely, that their labours would be by the Spirit, and that they would be encouraged and strengthened in Christ.

  8. 8.     Our Diocesan staff & volunteers, especially our executive director, Rev. Canon Howard Edwards. Pray for strength for the tasks, faithfulness in service, and joy in the Lord. Pray for our diocesan council, for wisdom and servant hearts as they serve. May God’s blessing rest on our diocese as we seek to build Biblically faithful, Gospel sharing, Anglican churches.

  9. 9.     Asian & Multicultural Ministries in Canada (AMMiC) – May God bless and prosper their efforts as they minister within communities of ethnic minorities and new immigrants, seeking to make disciples and plant churches. You can learn more about this important work at ammic.ca

  10. 10.  Pray for all our young church plants, projects and prospective ministries including: Emmanuel Winnipeg, MB (coming this year); Via Caronport, SK; All Saints Calgary, AB; Good Shepherd Burnaby, BC (Chinese); King’s Cross Burnaby, BC; and Redemption Church Charlottetown, PEI.

  11. 11.  Pray for the faculty and students of our seminary, Packer College, resident at the Church of the Good Samaritan in St. John’s NL.   12. 12.  Our diocesan archdeacons, canons & all clergy – Pray for spiritual and physical protection and renewal as well as God’s blessing upon their ministry. Pray also for their spouses & families that God would grant them safety and health in body, mind and spirit and may the Lord grant them grace upon grace as they pastor those under their care.
    Pray for our Eastern Clergy and Spouses Retreat beginning today (May 12-15) in Huntsville, Ontario. May it be a rich time of refreshment in the Lord, encouragement, vision and fellowship for these leaders.   13. 13.  Pray for recently consecrated bishop, Rt. Rev. Darrell Critch (longtime rector of Good Samaritan, NL), who is caring for the clergy in the Diocese of Mahajanga, Madagascar. Pray for him, his family and the people of his diocese as they seek to faithfully serve the Lord Jesus in the midst of many challenges.   14. 14.  Pray for the Anglican Relief and Development Fund Canada (ARDFC) who have just entered into an extension of the successful Mozambique water project with refurbishing 14 more wells. You can learn more and give at the ardfc.ca

  15. 15.  Pray for all our children and youth ministries across the diocese. Coming out of our last synod, we are giving special focus this year to these ministries. Please pray for new ministries to be formed, current ministries to grow and be strengthened, and that all our churches would share the gospel with and disciple children and youth.   28. 28.  Pray for the ongoing ministry of Gafcon, our global family of authentic Anglicans standing together to retain and restore the Bible to the heart of the Anglican Communion. Pray for the fulfillment of their God-given mandate: “to guard and proclaim the unchanging, transforming Gospel through biblically faithful preaching and teaching which frees our churches to make disciples by clear and certain witness to Jesus Christ in all the world.” You can learn more at gafcon.org

  29. 29.  Pray for our diocesan Curacy Program where support is provided to young clergy so they can take curacy positions in some of our congregations. Pray for these curates that they would grow and mature as clergy and serve their congregations faithfully. Pray for the rectors of these congregations that they would mentor these curates well.   30. 30.  Collect for Ascension Day:
    Almighty God, whose only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven: May our hearts and minds also there ascend, and with him continually dwell; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.  BCP 2019

  31. 31.  Pray for a spirit of evangelism in all our congregations as we seek to be faithful ambassadors for Christ in our nation:
    Almighty God our Saviour, you desire that none should perish, and you have taught us through your Son that there is great joy in heaven over every sinner who repents: Grant that our hearts may ache for a lost and broken world. May your Holy Spirit work through our words, deeds, and prayers, that the lost may be found and the dead made alive, and that all your redeemed may rejoice around your throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
