Prayer Calendar - December 2025
Pray with us each day this month for different leaders, congregations and ministries across our diocese and beyond.
We pray today for us all as we enter into the season of Advent, that we would faithfully remember the coming of your Son, our Lord Christ Jesus, both born in Bethlehem and coming in glory.
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness, and put on the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which your Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. (Collect for the First Sunday in Avent, BCP 2019)We pray for Bishop Dan Gifford, our Diocesan Bishop and area bishop for the East, as he cares for and shepherds our clergy and congregations in the Eastern half of the country and across our diocese. We pray also for his wife, Cathryn, and their family.
We pray for Bishop Mike Stewart, Suffragan Bishop and area bishop for the West, as he cares for and shepherds our clergy and congregations in the Western half of the country. We pray also for his wife, Marianne, and their family.
We pray for Bishop Stephen Leung, Suffragan Bishop for our Asian and Multicultural Ministries in Canada(AMMiC), as he cares for and shepherds the clergy and congregations within the AMMiC. We pray also for his wife, Nona, and their family.
We pray for our province of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA), in which we are one of thirty dioceses. We pray for our Primate, Archbishop Steve Wood (& Jacqueline), for the Dean, Bishop Julian Dobbs, for the College of Bishops, Provincial Executive Council and the Provincial staff. We pray especially in these days for Bishop Dobbs, as he leads the Province during this difficult time and the investigation regarding Archbishop Wood. We pray for everyone involved in the investigation, the Board of Inquiry, and for all those who have brought forward allegations of harm and misconduct. May you be their comfort and strength, and may your grace and justice prevail.
We pray for our Episcopal Fellowship of Bishops, and specifically for those retired from official responsibilities: Bishops: Ron Ferris (& Jan), Grant LeMarquand (& Wendy), Charlie Masters (& Judy), Don Harvey (& Trudy), Trevor Walters (& Dede), and Malcolm Harding (& Marylou). We give thanks to God for their years of service and the Gospel-ministry they continue to support across our diocese and beyond.
We pray for church planting across the country, for our Canon for Church Planting, George Sinclair, and our Church Planting Committee as they help direct these efforts. We pray for an abundance of funding and leaders for many future church plants. And we pray for our current plants and projects including: Emmanuel Winnipeg, MB; Via Caronport, SK; All Saints Calgary, AB; Good Shepherd Burnaby, BC; King’s Cross Burnaby, BC; and Redemption Church Charlottetown, PEI. We pray also for Deacon Nathan Chan, as he is ordained today as a presbyter at Christ the King, Edmonton. We pray for all our children and youth ministries across the diocese. We pray for new ministries to be formed, current ministries to grow and be strengthened, and that all our churches would disciple children and youth well.
We pray that all our congregations and ministry would be Biblically grounded. This was our special focus of Synod 2025 and for the year ahead. We pray for our preachers, teachers, leaders and members, that all we do would be grounded upon, formed by and fueled through the good news of Jesus Christ, passed down in Holy Scripture.
We pray that all our congregations and members would rightly see ourselves as on mission in this world, as ambassadors for Christ. May we see the needs of others–body, spirit and soul–in our communities and around the world and sacrificially give to love them well.
We pray for our efforts to proclaim the Gospel across the diocese. We pray that each of our members, young and old, would be equipped, encouraged and commissioned as bold witnesses for the good news of Jesus. We pray that resources like The Word One to One would help equip us in this Great Commission. Learn more: dioceseofcanada.ca/bold-witnesses

We pray for our Diocesan Council, which provides governance for our diocese between synods. We pray for the five lay and five clergy members (some of whom were just elected at Synod 2025), along with our diocesan bishop, that they would be blessed with all wisdom and discernment as they seek to watch over and care for the diocese well.
We pray for our Diocesan staff, based in Burlington, Ontario, as they provide direction and administration to our diocesan finances, policies, events, and communication, and assist our bishops, council and clergy.
We pray for the job openings we have across the diocese. We pray for wisdom and discernment for each congregation in their search for these ministry leaders, and for excellent candidates to be provided for each important role. Learn more: dioceseofcanada.ca/jobs
