Commend Jesus With Us
“Why should I be interested in Jesus? What’s he done for you?”
What has Jesus Done for You?
If someone asked you, “What’s so great about Jesus? What’s believing in him done in your life?” How would you answer that question?
As we desire to be good ambassadors for Jesus, this is a really important first step for us. If we are inviting friends or family or colleagues to read the Bible with us or come to church with us, they will want to know why should they? And, while the good news of Jesus is about real events in history and his real and present Lordship over all things, one of the first specific questions people will tend to have is: what has believing in Jesus done for you? How has faith in Jesus impacted your life? Why would you personally commend hoping in him and his promises?
So, we want to encourage us all to be thinking in these terms often and to have great answers to this simple question. Considering this question is also a great exercise for becoming more aware of and grateful for the ways Jesus is sustaining and transforming us day to day. As the Psalmist says:
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.”
Psalm 66:16

With this in mind would you consider recording and sharing with us a very short video answering this question? We would love to share how we are answering this question all across the diocese. This could be such an encouragement and inspiration to so many others, and an opportunity for you to commend Jesus to people all around the world.
If this sounds intimidating to you here are a few encouragements:
There is no perfect answer.
If you’re worried because you don’t think you’re a bible scholar or apologist, be encouraged. Each person will answer this question differently, and differently in different seasons of life. This is not to be a sermon, it’s intended to be you sharing a little of your own experience with Jesus.Awkward and bumpy can be as effective as smooth and polished.
If you’re worried because you don’t think you’re a polished speaker, be encouraged. When sharing a personal testimony, often the polished speaker is not as effective as the one speaking from the heart through difficulty and struggle.The video quality doesn’t really matter.
Perhaps the technical aspects of recording a video of yourself worries you, well be encouraged. These are intended to be personal testimonies from real people, not Oscar-worthy film productions. If we can hear your words and mostly see your face, then you are good to go! Most smartphones can make this very easy. And if you don’t know how to record yourself, almost certainly you know someone who could for you.It doesn’t need to be long or complex. In fact it shouldn’t be!
If you’re worried you don’t have enough to say, be encouraged. Our intention for these video clips is that they are just the tip of the iceberg. They are the beginning of bigger conversations. They are the few sentences you have time for in casual conversation with someone to give them a glimpse at what Jesus is doing in you as you trust and love him. They are just a recommendation and invitation for that person to discover more. So just keep it short, and keep it simple, and keep it about Jesus.
Recording Your Video
Length
Please try to keep your video no more than 2 minutes in length.
Remember these are to be short and simple answers to the question, “Why should I be interested in Jesus? What’s he done for you?”
They don’t need to be your life story (as good a story as that may be).
They can focus on one aspect (greater peace, meaning, purpose, clarity, security, freedom, contentment, etc.) or one area of your life (community, career, marriage, parenting, etc.) in which Jesus is making all the difference. (You can submit more than one too!)
