Working together to plant churches across Canada and see more people reached with the good news of Jesus.

Planting new churches is a big part of our vision as a diocese and central to our mission to be building Biblically faithful, Gospel sharing, Anglican churches.

We believe it should be in the very nature of churches to multiply. And we think this is the best way to live out the Great Commission of Jesus together— to reach more people with his life-bringing Gospel and to receive, nurture and form his people well.

Our prayer is that every member and congregation in our diocese sees that they have a vital role to play in this amazing work.

To pursue this intentionally and strategically we have a Church Plant Servant Leadership Team, consisting of our Canon for Church Planting and other clergy and lay planters. Together with our bishops they seek to encourage and direct our efforts together to see church planters raised up and new congregations beginning. We partner with Always Forward (our Provincial Office of Church Planting) as well as City to City Canada to assess and prepare our church planters for the field.

But we passionately believe that every person and every congregation in our diocese can and should be involved in the multifaceted and wonderful work of planting churches. Learn how you can get involved below!

How Can Your Congregation Be Involved?

Releasing, Supervising and Blessing Congregations

We believe that every congregation in our diocese—regardless of size, age, or resources—has a meaningful role to play in bringing new churches to life. Planting a church is never the work of a single individual; it is a collaborative movement of the Holy Spirit working through our entire diocesan family.

There are three primary roles in our church planting work and every congregation can fit in at least one of them, if not more. These roles are Releasing congregations, Supervising congregations, and Blessing congregations.

The Releasing Congregation is where a church planter and their family have been worshiping, growing, and serving prior to launching into new ministry. This congregation may not be able to be a Supervising church, but they can help identify, prepare and send a church planter from their midst.
The Supervising Congregation acts as the primary umbrella and oversight for the new plant. They are a well established, healthy church with adequate resources to provide direct pastoral care, spiritual mentorship, and official administrative and financial oversight for the first several years.
A Blessing Congregation is one that commits to regular, intentional prayer and consistent financial support for a church planter and their mission. Any congregation can be a Blessing congregation and our hope is that every church plant has many Blessing congregations lifting them and supporting them in their work.
